Third Grade Homework
Your child will receive their homework assignments daily. On most days they will have spelling, math, and reading and the assignments will be written down in their planner. Your child is only responsible for turning in the homework on the following day unless a due date is given. There is a turn in basket when they enter the classroom. That is where they turn in their homework first thing in the morning. I will also be checking that a grown ups initials are written next to the days assignment in the planner.
In addition to their written work, please have your children read 20-30 minutes every night. The students will receive a reading portfolio this year where they will keep the chapter book they are reading, their reading journal, and their reading log. This portfolio needs to travel back and forth from home to school. Learning to build stamina, hang onto the same book, and have meaningful discussions about their books are key learning concepts in third grade.
Homework should last no more than 45 minutes a night. If you have questions or concerns with homework, please e-mail me and we can set up a time to conference.
